Rental homes in Heerlen

Heerlen is the largest town in Parkstad Limburg, in the far south of the Netherlands. For a long time it was a coal mining town, and that history still shapes the place. Its roots go back to Roman times too, as the Thermenmuseum shows. The rolling South Limburg countryside starts right outside town.

The Open University has its headquarters in Heerlen, Zuyd University of Applied Sciences has a campus here, and Statistics Netherlands (CBS) runs a large office in the town. That brings a mix of students, people who work locally and families to the rental market. Housing is generally more affordable than in the Randstad, which is one reason people move here.

From Heerlen station, trains run to Maastricht and Sittard, and there is a direct link to Aachen. Germany and Belgium are very close. A practical tip is to include the other Parkstad municipalities in your search, such as Kerkrade and Landgraaf. They border Heerlen and give you more to choose from.
