What we keep and why
| What | What for | Legal basis | How long |

| Payment data. Payments go through Mollie; we only see the status, the payment method and the amount | Charging and renewing your subscription | The contract, and the law | 7 years, because tax rules require it. After that we anonymise it |
| The moment you agreed at checkout | Proof that you agreed, and that you gave up your right of withdrawal for what was already delivered | The law | 7 years |
| Your saved searches and alert settings | Sending your alerts | Our contract with you | Until you remove them or your account is deleted |
| The homes you save as favourites | Showing them on your favourites page | Our contract with you | Until you remove them or your account is deleted |
| Which group a campaign link placed you in, say students | Showing the homepage and the search order that fit you | Our legitimate interest | As long as your account exists |
| Where your first visit came from: the campaign in the link, the site that sent you, the page you landed on | Knowing which campaigns bring customers | Our legitimate interest | As long as your account exists |
| Your language | Emails in your language | Our legitimate interest | As long as your account exists |
| What you do on the site: which pages and homes you look at, what you search for, whether you create an account, confirm your email address, save a search or a favourite, start checking out, subscribe, or open a landlord's contact details. Through cookies, and for those events also from our server with a hashed form of your email address and of your account number to Meta, which gets the same two from the pixel on the page while you are logged in; the browser details sent with an event (IP address, browser, Meta's cookies) stay with that event for 30 days; the values of Meta's two cookies are also kept with your account, until you choose "Only necessary" in the cookie settings or have your account deleted | Statistics, and seeing which ads work | Your consent in the cookie banner | At most 14 months in Google Analytics; at Meta, under Meta's policy |
| Your IP address and technical logs | Security, stopping abuse, finding bugs | Our legitimate interest | At most 30 days |
| Which listings you opened and which we emailed you. A click in an email counts as opened too | Making sure we never send you the same home twice, or one you already saw | Our contract with you, or your consent to listing suggestions | As long as your account exists |
| What you search for while logged in | Suggesting homes that fit what you are looking for | Your consent to listing suggestions | As long as your account exists |
| If you invite friends: your referral code, which accounts came through your link, what their first full month earned you, and the bank account and name you gave us for payouts | Paying you your commission, and proof of what was paid and why | Our contract with you, and the law for the payout records | The bank account until you change it; the payout records 7 years |
| Whether and when you agreed to listing suggestions by email | Proof of your consent | The law | As long as your account exists |
A listing on RentQuick may include a landlord's name or contact details as they appear publicly on the source website. We only show those to subscribers, and we remove them if you ask.
Who processes data for us
Hetzner hosts the website, in Germany and Finland. Mollie handles payments, in the Netherlands. Postmark sends our emails. Sentry receives the website's error reports and stores them in Germany, without your email or IP address. The small map on a listing comes from PDOK, the Dutch Kadaster's map service; it sees your IP address when it serves the map, as any website you visit does, and sets no cookies.
Only if you agree in the cookie banner do Google Ireland Limited (Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics) and Meta Platforms Ireland Limited (the Meta Pixel and the Conversions API) and Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited (Clarity, which records how pages are used with what you type masked) come in as well. They may also process data in the United States, under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
We have a data processing agreement with each of them.
Cookies
A few cookies are needed to log in and keep the site secure. Cookies for statistics and advertising are only set if you accept them. The full list, and how to change your choice, is in the cookie policy.
Your rights
You can always see what data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, and object to what we do with it. Email [email protected] and you'll get an answer within 30 days. If you have your data deleted, we only keep what the law requires us to keep, which is the payment records, and we detach those from your name and email address.
If you're not happy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens in the Netherlands or to Datatilsynet in Denmark.
