Cookie policy
Version 2.5, 12 October 2026.
RentQuick uses a few cookies. Some are needed to make the site work, for example to keep you logged in. The rest are for statistics and advertising, and we only set those once you click "Accept" in the cookie banner. If you choose "Only necessary" under "Settings", we don't even load the tools that would set them.
Cookies that are always on
The site doesn't work properly without these, so we don't ask for consent. There are nine, all set by RentQuick itself.
sessionid keeps you logged in and tells us whether you have a subscription. It stays for 2 weeks. csrftoken keeps the forms on the site secure, so another website can't send something through them in your name. rq_consent remembers what you chose in the cookie banner. Those two stay for 1 year. And rq_rot keeps the recommended homes in the same order while you look around; it's gone after 6 hours. If you open the site through a friend's invitation link, rq_ref remembers that for 30 days, so your friend gets the credit when you sign up. If you arrive through a link made for a group, say students, rq_aud remembers which homepage and which search order fit you, for 180 days. And rq_landing remembers for this browser session which page you arrived on, so we know which pages work; it goes when you close the browser. rq_touch remembers for 30 days where your first visit came from (the campaign in the link, the site that sent you, the page you landed on), so that when you create an account we know which campaign brought you. And if you arrive by clicking one of our ads on Facebook or Instagram, rq_click remembers that click for at most 7 days, until you answer the cookie banner. We don't send it anywhere: only if you click "Accept" does it become _fbc (see below), and if you choose "Only necessary" we delete it.
There is one more cookie, and it is one that you will never get: rq_test. We put it on the browsers of our own team, through a link only we have, so that our own test visits are not counted in the statistics and none of the tools below load there. It stays for 1 year.
Cookies after you say yes
If you click "Accept", we load Google Tag Manager. That in turn loads Google Analytics, the Meta Pixel and Microsoft Clarity, which set cookies of their own.
Google Analytics sets _ga, to recognise that you've visited before, and _ga_RX538YG7ND, to keep track of your visit. Both are only for statistics, and they stay for 2 years. _fbp recognises your browser, so that visits can be measured and ads on Facebook and Instagram fit better. _fbc remembers that you came in through one of those ads. The Meta Pixel sets them, or our own server does (the same cookies with the same content, _fbc from the click that was waiting). Those stay for 3 months. Microsoft Clarity records how pages are used (where people click, scroll and hesitate; what you type is masked) so we can see where the site is unclear; it sets _clck, which recognises your browser for 1 year, and _clsk, which ties the pages of one visit together for 1 day.
This shows us which pages people look at and how many of them create an account, confirm their email address, save a search, start checking out or take out a subscription. For those events, and when you open a landlord's contact details, our server also sends Meta a hashed version of your email address (through Meta's Conversions API), so Meta can tell which ad led to an account or a subscription; Meta cannot read the address itself from it, and this too happens only after you clicked "Accept". While you are logged in, the Meta Pixel on the page gets that same hashed address, and a hashed form of your account number, with every page you view; our server sends the hashed account number too. Your name and payment details are never sent along. If you have an account, we keep the values of those two Meta cookies with it, so that a payment or a login in another browser still belongs to the ad that brought you; we delete them when you choose "Only necessary" or have your account deleted.
Google Ireland Limited, Meta Platforms Ireland Limited and Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited (Clarity) may also process this data in the United States. All three take part in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. What else they do with data is in Google's privacy policy, Meta's privacy policy and Microsoft's privacy statement.
Changed your mind?
At the bottom of every page there's a "Cookie settings" link. Click it and the cookie settings open, so you can choose again. If you choose "Only necessary" there, we delete rq_click, _fbp and _fbc right away. You can also delete or block cookies in your browser, but without the ones that are always on you can't log in.
What other data we keep and what your rights are is in our privacy policy. Questions about cookies? Email [email protected].
