Rental homes in Utrecht

Utrecht sits in the middle of the country, and its central station is a major rail hub. Direct trains run to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Arnhem and many other cities, which makes Utrecht a popular base for people who work across the Randstad. The historic centre, with its canals and wharf cellars along the Oudegracht, is small enough to cross by bike in no time.

Students make up a big part of the renting population. Utrecht University has many of its faculties at the Utrecht Science Park on the east side of the city, and the University of Applied Sciences Utrecht attracts many more. Rooms are easiest to find in the older neighbourhoods around the centre, such as Lombok, Wittevrouwen and Oost. Couples and families often look at Leidsche Rijn, a large newer district in the west with more family houses and apartments with outdoor space.

If you need a room for the academic year, start searching well before summer. Competition peaks in the months before September, and by August the choice is thin.
