With its canals, old gabled houses and a market square between the Nieuwe Kerk and the city hall, Delft looks like a small historic town. It is also very much a student city, because TU Delft draws students and researchers from all over the world.

Most students rent a room, either in the old centre or in student buildings towards the campus. DUWO manages a large share of the student housing. The Wippolder is close to the university and popular with students and PhD candidates. People looking for an apartment or a family home also search in districts such as Tanthof and Voorhof. Besides students, Delft is home to many expats and to people who work in The Hague or Rotterdam.

The Hague and Rotterdam are both close by train, and a tram runs to The Hague as well. Within Delft, the bike is the normal way to get around. The market is tight, especially for rooms just before the academic year. Sign up for student housing early and search the private market at the same time.
